I’m travelling out of Israel to fly home from Cairo, and am contemplating doing it by land ie bus. Is this worthwhile? How long is the trip and is it scenic and safe?

    • Israel Travel Team (September 22, 2012):

It is not feasible to travel by land from Israel to Cairo.
It is a very long way, public transportation in the Sinai area is poor and very limited.
And lastly, it is not safe at all.
Unfortunately, flights from Israel to Egypt are scarce these days ( 2012) due to the fragile security situation in Egypt.

  2. Olga (July 31, 2012):

Hi, plan to travel to Jerusalem this september. I have got some questions and would appreciate your advice.
If the plane arrives at night – is it safe to take a taxi to the hotel? Or is it better to ask hotel for greet and meet?

Are any basic services availbale on Jewish New Year or everything is shut down?
Is it safe in general take taxis from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem? Is Old city and the Christian sites are open every day?

    Thank you for your help,

    • Israel Travel Team (September 22, 2012):

Yes, It is safe to take taxis at night in Israel. You travel to Jerusalem, so as long as you don’t go to east Jerusalem at night then you are safe.
On Jewish holidays most services are shut down, you can read more about it in the article Shabbat and Holidays in Israel. Outdoor public places are open year round.

Hello, I will be traveling with my family to Israel in about a month and would like to show them the dead sea and maybe even get their feet wet in it- not really any swimming. My question is, we will be traveling from Jerusalem to Tiberias via highway 1 to 90 north and would like to see the dead sea with the least detour out of our way, at its northern point. Can you tell us where to go as I heard there is danger of sinkholes and you cannot stop just anywhere?
    Please respond to my email

  9. Alice (July 29, 2015):

I’m going to Israel in a few months and would like to learn some basic Hebrew. What would you advise? Or maybe it will be better to get some lessons there, in Israel? I’ve found this person promising to teach me Hebrew fast – but haven’t contacted her yet. Do you think it’s worth? Has anyone studied Hebrew with a tutor online? Please, advice.

  13. Ron Bloomfield (November 11, 2015):

I am thinking of either flying from TLV to Eilat or taking a bus from Jerusalem. I know for international flights I have to arrive three hours prior to departure but what about for domestic flights on Arkia? Is it still mandatory to arrive that many hours prior to departure for domestic flights.

Also, at Eilat how much time is required for me to arrive prior to a flight to TLV?

Would it actually be faster to take a bus?

  14. Lily Fox (March 2, 2016):

I stayed in a wonderful apartment hotel named Eclectic. located in central TLV, so it close to all the main attractions: neve tzedek, carmel market and the beach.
i would like to recommend it and suggest to any one travelling to TLV, check it out.

My daughter has the chance to travel to Israel with her college this summer on a trip sponsored by the Philos Project. I’m terrified to let her go because of the safety concerns and the U.S. State Department warnings. She has a preliminary itinerary of about 18 sights to see, 13 of which are in Jerusalem. She will not be going to the Gaza Strip but some of the sights are on the border of Jerusalem and the West Bank. I hate to listen solely to the media reports because they will embellish anything for a story. Please tell me honestly about safety in Israel and the risks involved sending my daughter there
